Hello all!, thanks for all of your interest in modelling on our pages. We had such a good response, that I felt we needed to organise an evening, so I did. As per usual, I went a little crazy and it has now become.......'An Evening With “Style”….'
Interested in a career in fashion?
Hennessy Media, in association with the Kilkenny People, will be holding a career evening in Langton’s hotel on Thursday, the 2nd of November, from 6pm to 9pm. Entry is completely free, and open to everyone.
We will have a panel of experts who will meet with you one on one to give you advice on how to get into a particular area of fashion.
I will be looking for models, stylists and designers to feature on these pages. Don’t forget, the most successful people in their field usually start at home, so absorb all the information you can. This is not an easy industry to break into, so prepare yourself. Here is all of the information well in advance so you can get yourselves organised!
THE EVENT
So, what’s it all about? Well, so far we have roped in a couple of Kilkenny based young business people to talk you through your future career, and assist you with any questions you may have. Conversations will be on a one on one basis, so, if you are in school, want to move up the career ladder, or just want to set up on your own, call down and have a chat with one of our experts. There will be spot prizes on the night, a make up master class, and style advice. So, treat yourself to an evening with Style. After all, its free gratis!
So who’s on our panel, well, me for one!…
I will be there on behalf of my style and interiors pages in the Kilkenny People. So, if you are one of the following, call down for a chat, you could end up modelling, styling or featuring on one of our pages.
MODELS ; I am looking for models of all ages, any age, shape, weight, height, figure and style. I am also interested in plus size models and some more mature ladies to call down for a chat.
You may be hoping to begin a career in modelling, or maybe you just want to have a laugh with your pals during a shoot. Maybe you want a beautiful photograph of yourself to show your great grandkids. We don’t pay for shoots for the paper, but you do get prints to add to your portfolio, or just to hang in your bedroom.
We will be stock piling the information collected, and some of you will be invited to join our new commercial modelling agency.
We will chat to everyone interested, and book some of you in for shoots there and then.
STYLE ASSISTANTS So you think you want to work on fashion shoots eh? Think you know how to throw an outfit together that will meet every ones satisfaction, meet the deadlines, and make the grade? It’s not easy, it involves a lot of running around, disappointment, hard work and a calm personality. We are always looking for potential style assistants who will help out on shoots. Your time must be donated, but we will publish your name as the Style Assistant, provide you with invaluable experience, and offer you a reference where applicable. Some people just want to be around fashion, we are looking for those who love it so much that they are willing to work hard for it.
STYLE WRITERS Do you think you can work words better than most? Do you feel a need to share your opinions, offer advise, source information? Here at Style, we are open to guest writers, so bring a sample of your work with you, and let’s see if you have what it takes right now, or if you need a little help getting there. We don’t pay for your work, but you could get published, and that is invaluable to your future career.
FASHION DESIGNERS We will also be seeking out the new designers on the block, so if you would like to feature your personally designed shoes, dresses, jewellery or bags, call in for a chat. We can give you a date there and then for your feature, worth thousands of euro, in the Kilkenny People.

kate..
Hi, i think this is a great idea, i really do. I'm just wondering is it just for the Kilkenny People? i really like the paper but is that the final outcome of the evening that we get published? it's great for the careers part as well, reminds me of my college career days, only you have great people lined up- so thanks. The modeling agency, i've signed up with so many at this point, i'm just wondering where the commercial aspect is in the city, is there not one here already?? But like getting free pics, i don't think anywhere else would offer that, i know i was told my top agency before all you need is a plain old head shot, but i dobt that's true, to get one from a photographer would be great. Sorry for all the questions, it's just i've been burnt in the past by promises of a modeling career.
Hi,
well that is a lot of questions, but that's okay!
As we are only locally based, then the only thing that we can do for you at the moment is get you published in the Kilkenny People.
We can't guide you through your modelling career, we are only offering the chance to get published, in what is one of the largest regional papers in Ireland, with a readership of almost 80,000. That is a pretty good outcome, I think.
It's up to you to take that opportunity and run with it, it's not our mission to make you succesful, we just want to give people a head start in the only way we can.
The modelling agency is just a thought, as I said, it is something for the future. There is already a fashion modelling agency in Kilkenny called Hype, run by the lovely Karen Morrissey. We do not aim to do catwalk, we are commercial, which means businesses will use you for promotional work. That is the difference.
Most modelling agencies will only accept normal photos, not professional ones, so don't think that we are offering the photos for that purpose, they are for your personal portfolio, or your personal enjoyment. We are not here to get you into modelling agencies, we are here, as I said, to offer a head start in this industry, and offer free help and advice because we can.
I think a lot of people have been "burnt", but I aso think a lot of people have expected too much from their agency. You will only succeed in this industry if you have drive, ambition and initiative. I'm sure you do, I hope you will realise your career dreams.
Finally, you never know who you meet, who sees your shots, who you're speaking to, who they might know, or where they might work in the future. You can get a break anywhere, if you are the right person with the right attitude.
I really do wish you all the success you deserve, and hope to see you on the night.
Blanaid
